Two Months Of Festivities To Mark Sultan`s Birthday

Bandar Seri Begawan - With the national flag hoisting ceremony Sunday marking the beginning of celebrations of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan`s 61j birthday, a series of cultural and sporting events will be held across the country in all four districts for nearly two months.

The next big event on the calendar is the Solat Fardhu Maghrib Berjemaah, recital of Yasin, Tahil and Dao Kesyukuran and Solat Fardu Isyak Berjemaah at all mosques in the country, with the focus on Jame` Asr Hassanil Bolkiah on July 14.

On the day of His Majesty`s birthday, the main celebration will be at the Taman Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien where His Majesty will be attending the Royal Guard of Honour ceremony.

It will he followed by the investiture ceremony and banquet at the Istana Nurul Iman. A fireworks display is also scheduled to take place during the dinner.

On July 17, residents of the Temburong District are expected to celebrate His Majesty`s birthday by meeting and greeting the monarch in a get-together ceremony.

On July 19, His Majesty is scheduled to visit the Tutong District to attend the get-together ceremony with the people of the district.

His Majesty`s meet-and-greet session with his subjects win take place in the Belait District on July 21,while Brunei-Muara District residents will get a chance to fete His Majesty on July 22.

Other activities in store for His Majesty`s birthday cerebration are the launching of Majlis Ilmu 2007 on July 24, Malam Serumpun Seri 61 on August 4 and Symposium for Consultative Council of Mukim and Villages from August 7 to 9.

For sport fans, a series of events are in the pipeline including a chess tournament, tug of war, Brunei National softball tournament, Casing, speed boat racing, bicycle race, kayak tournament, fencing competition and many more.
